The first chapter includes general information such as details on the islands' government, dependencies, flora, fauna, populations, trade, products, communication services, shipping, currency, weights and measures, time, health, etc. The other chapters give detailed navigational details (directions, latitudes and longitudes, shoals, tides, winds, light beacons, anchorage, dangers, etc.) for "Madagascar, Iles Comores, Ile de la Réunion, Mauritius, the Seychelles, the Chagos Archipelago, and other islands lying westward of longitude 80° East".
